Texas Health Resource plans to build a 60-bed hospital in the fast-growing city of Forney on the eastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the health care system announced Thursday.

Texas Health Resources said the 242,000-square-foot hospital will include an emergency room, operating suites, a labor and delivery department and medical offices. Eventually, it will grow to roughly 104 beds, a spokesperson said.

Construction is expected to finish in 2027, and the health care company said it will add “a few hundred jobs” to the area.

“To better meet the community’s increasing needs, we are excited to offer more services and access points throughout Kaufman County, including constructing the first hospital in Forney,” Texas Health Resources CEO Barclay Berdan said in a statement. “With deep roots in the community, including a hospital in Kaufman that has served this community for more than 40 years, we are excited to bring additional health care for Kaufman County residents.”

Texas Health won’t be the only health care presence in Forney. Baylor Scott and White operates a free-standing, 24-hour emergency room at its medical center building in town.

Kaufman County is among the fastest-growing counties in the country, adding 65,000 residents between 2012 and 2022 for a 61% increase, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Forney has been the epicenter of that development. The city and its surrounding area nearly doubled in population between 2010 and 2020, adding 31,000 people. Costco plans to build a store on Highway 80 on Forney’s western edge.

“We are thrilled to welcome this facility to Forney, as it will provide our residents with top-quality health care right here in our city,” Forney Mayor Jason Roberson said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming Texas Health Resources and the positive impact it will have on our community.”
