Patty Scott dreamt of being a writer before she could even set words on paper. She loves writing happily ever after stories and scenes where kisses make you melt a little. She also loves to write non-fiction books that help moms navigate motherhood, grow in their faith, and find joy in life.

Patty’s fictional characters experience real life struggles, misunderstandings, and hurts, but they make their way through and find love in the end. Patty delights in bringing her sense of humor into a story. No two characters are alike, and no story is ever like another. Patty’s relatable characters make her stories come to life.

Patty and her husband have two boys aged 11 and 18. They also have a 22-year-old foster daughter. Her joys when she isn’t writing are hiking, sharing conversation and a good cup of coffee with friends, dancing Hip Hop, and taking spontaneous road trips.

You can connect with Patty at her website https://pattyhscott.com. Patty has a Facebook community for readers called Patty Scott’s Sweet Readers and a page for you to follow her writing at Patty H Scott/Author. Her books can be found on Amazon. You are welcome to join her at any of those places.

She’s sworn off men, until she meets him.

Katrina Bradshaw is a free-spirited photojournalist who has endured “a series of unfortunate events” (aka her love life). When she bumps into Jack, she wonders if he could be different than other men.

Jack Anders is a buttoned-up young executive with a five-year plan and a dream he hasn’t shared with anyone.

When he coincidentally bumps into Katrina, she opens possibilities Jack had only dared to imagine.

A series of near misses threatens to keep Katrina and Jack apart.

What will it take for them to find their second chance at love?

Love’s Second Chance isn’t a typical ‘second chance romance’ in that it’s not about two people who used to be in love way back when and finally find each other again. Rather, it’s about two people who get a second chance at love after having a couple of chance meetings, an instant attraction, a swoony first kiss before circ*mstances conspire to snuff out their brewing romance almost before it starts. I loved how Scott’s uncommon approach to this common trope kept the story fresh and unpredictable, and I also gotta say that I loved those swoony kisses. (I’m sure no one is shocked lol) The fact that she tells the story from each main character’s perspective, alternating, and in first person present tense also contributes to the uniqueness of this novel. (Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of first person present tense & have only ever really enjoyed it in one instance, so this part of Scott’s writing style took me a bit to get used to. But once I did, I almost didn’t even notice it anymore.)

Bottom Line: Love’s Second Chance by Patty H. Scott is a sweet romance with unique elements that have it lingering with you after you’ve turned the last page. Readers will enjoy getting to know Kat & Jack and will most definitely be cheering for them to find that second chance at love the title suggests. Subtle faith notes support the story but never overwhelm it, and the characters’ growth from beginning to end adds to the layers of the plot. There were some things I didn’t care for about this debut novel, especially at the beginning, but these were very minor & more of a matter of personal preference. Overall this is a very enjoyable read, and I’m looking forward to reading other books in this series, especially Jack’s brother’s story!

(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read via Kindle Unlimited. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4 stars / enjoyed it!

KissingBook Level: 3 / will forget to breathe on occasion

Hi Patty! Welcome to the blog!

Love's Second Chance - Scott - Giveaway - Reading Is My SuperPower (13)

Patty: I have to pick summer because we have time off and I love traveling with my family when we can, even though I love a good winter day snuggled in front of the fire with a book.

Carrie: i could maybe get behind summer if it weren’t so dang hot lol

Carrie: that sounds very soothing!

Patty: Usually audiobooks, but I love music!

Carrie: My husband loves audiobooks but I just can’t get into them…

Patty: Can we do a half-half lunch. I love soup/sandwich combos!

Carrie: totally allowed because that really is the best answer 🙂

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Patty: I would say what others have told me, which is encouragement. I try to lift others up and tend to jump into situations where people feel downhearted to add something positive or comforting to their lives.

Carrie: we definitely need encouragers in this life! Thank you for being one.

Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?

Patty: Aslan. He felt so real to me and formed how I look at God.

Carrie: Yes! for me too. ‘Safe? Of course he isn’t safe. But he’s good.’ – one of my favorite quotes in fictiondom.

Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?

Patty: My characters would say I really get to know them. They would say I am their friend, their ally, and their champion. I adore my characters as though they are real people, and I think they would say they feel attached to me in the way I am attached to them. (Funny story: When I told my 12 yo son that my characters feel real, he said, “Mom, that’s just weird. I mean, that’s really weird.”)

Carrie: haha! Well, of course characters are real – we readers can back you up 🙂

Q: Which character in this series has been the most difficult to write?

Patty: Probably Joey, who is the brother of one of my main characters. He has autism and downs syndrome and I wanted to be true to his challenges while really showing off his personality.

Carrie: I can’t wait to meet him on the pages!

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing each book, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Patty: It’s a combination of both. I do roughly plot the book before jumping in, but usually a character comes to me first, then the rough idea of who they will meet and fall in love with, then the details start to gel a bit. I write some and then I need to step back. As I step back lots of scenes come to mind. I randomly note these. My characters introduce themselves to me in my imagination and as I write. They drive the stories I fashion. It’s like I’m chronicling what they show me.

Carrie: I think that’s how I would write, too, if I were ever to write a novel.

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from the Unforgettable Love Stories series?

Patty: I want readers to know we can heal from past hurts, and with a trustworthy friend or romantic relationship redemption is possible. We don’t have to stay stuck in the past. There is always hope where there is love.

Carrie: amen! i love that 🙂

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Patty: I’m working on my next series, The Calloway Inn series, which takes place in a fictional town on the central coast of California. There will be four books (interconnected, but stand-alone stories). The first of this series will be out April 1st, God willing. It’s an opposites attract clean romance called Someone to Hold.
